I admire Robert Frank and his shoot from the hip style. Just trying to capture people doing what they always do. People not trying to pose and look good for the camera are immensely more interesting than set up photographs. Its a moment that was only there for an instant and is now captured forever on film.
When we were first told to photograph ballet dancers I wasn't sure how to capture the movement and grace of the dancers. Still images do not quite convey the same fluidity they display while in person. Capturing them mid-motion was the next best thing.
Lighting set ups are not my favorite thing but working with these two was fun anyway. Trying to show the relationship of the singer to her piano player was a challenge. A yellow gel gave the scene a more antique/sun shiny feeling.
Dedication - self-sacrificing devotion. She could not walk that day but she was determined to see her granddaughter walk across the stage for her high school graduation.
Capturing another artist at work is always fun. He's immersed in his work, while I'm immersed in mine. Both of us doing what we love, oblivious to the other parties in the room.

People who keep things moving in the world are often over looked. A train mechanic discusses how he recently repaired this part. Capturing people while they are talking is rarely easy but it can be done.
Shooting a person well with available light is always fun. Shooting two people well with available light is even more fun. My grandmas house at Thanksgiving always has an old fashioned feeling. Putting a sepia tone on these photos shows that feeling better than a full color image.
Shot with available light. Sunlight is streaming in the back door and there is a florescent bulb overhead. White walls tend to make excellent fill cards, even when they're four feet away.
